Last weekend I decided it was time to blast my laptop and start over from scratch.  When I first got my laptop, about three years ago, I partitioned the drive with a huge chunk set aside for copying files back and forth between Linux and Windows because Linux’s NTFS support was not that reliable. Over the years I have hardly used that partition because I rarely had to be in Windows.  Well last week I ran out of disk space on my Linux partition so I blew everything away.

For the most part everything went smoothly.  Installing Windows was a pain as normal.  It took me about 6.5 hours to install the basic OS, do all the upgrades, and install the 5 programs that I need to get work done.  That was not tweaking the system to get it to look and act the way I wanted it to.  It was just to get it up and going to a point where I could be productive on it.  Fedora Core 6 on the other hand was a breeze to get up and running.  It took about 2 hours to install the OS, do all the upgrades, and install all the programs that I needed (more than 5).  I spent another 2 hours or so tweaking Beryl.

I am extremely happy with FC6 and Beryl.  I am considering blasting my home machine and doing the same.  I’m just a little more hesitant because that machine has been stable for a while now and has a lot of “mission critical” software for me.

This weekend I went up to Garrett County with a bunch of friends for a relaxing weekend. We rented a house and took it easy. We spent the majority of our time in the hot tub or rolling around in the snow. The reason we went up was because Chris Howell and I were going to particpate in the annual Deep Creek Dunk. This is where a bunch of people run into the lake to raise money for the Special Olympics. 32 degree water was not as bad as I expected. Thanks everyone that supported me, it was for a great cause.

You might have noticed that I have a new theme with the site. It was the creative genius of Mike Hoolehan. If you look hard enough you will see his trademark reference to a robot.

In the side bar you will also notice that I have a last.fm cloud with my current artists that I have been listening to.
